Its been two weeks and two days since we arrived and already one of the first things I do when I wake up is to check the weather--not to see if we can go outside and play but--to see if it is a good day to hang dry my laundry. Four kids, living by a beach, means lots of laundry. Scotland means no dryer...at least for me. So that means I am hang drying clothes--everywhere. Sometimes our house looks like a garage sale. Getting all the laundry washed, dried, folded and put away feels like a part time job--add cooking and I'm done! Yet here it was end of September and my kids still weren't in school...so I decided that today was a good day to begin a more normal rhythm of life (even if we are still sleeping on mattresses on the floor.) It was a day of many firsts.
2. I ran again for the first time since Joy's surgery.
3. Joy took her first full bath and can be picked up normally after having her sternum cracked open to fix her heart 7 weeks ago.
4. It is the 1st day of school for my kids...mama school as they called it. I decided we had better start with a field trip to a castle. We are in Scotland after all.
5. It was our first Scottish outing--complete with sheep, bunnies, castles and me driving the kids by myself on the left side of the road. Ahh!!!!!!
