Easter this year coincided with my eldest’ 10th birthday. Somehow it seemed fitting to celebrate entering a new decade on Easter—a day of new life. Sam's birthday means I’ve been at this parenting thing for 10 years which sometimes seems like it has flown by and other times feels like an eternity.
One of my not so secret hopes for this Easter/birthday was for my youngest to be completely out of diapers. I figure a solid decade changing diapers is long enough. And guess what our youngest decided Saturday night with no prompting? That she didn’t want her nighttime diaper!!!!!! She has been accident and diaper free since. I know yesterday was about Jesus being raised from the dead and believe me, Easter is one of my favorite days of the year. But come on people---I AM DONE WITH DIAPERS!!! Jesus heard my cry!!!
Actually it is a good analogy of Easter. Bear with me. I realize last week I attributed chocolate cake with God’s kingdom and today I am going to link being toilet trained with resurrection! But seriously… Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection we don’t have to carry our shi* around with us anymore. We can flush it. We are forgiven. Every time we mess up we get a chance to repent, receive God’s forgiveness, to forgive others. It is akin to getting to flush it away rather than have it stuck to us! So this Easter, I am celebrating Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, 10 years of Sam and being done with a decade of diapers! Here is to new life and new seasons!
